Graduate business program managers often find themselves in one of two states–making plans or reacting to plans others in their industry are executing. The MBA News Digest Trends Reports can help place their planning and reacting outcomes in perspective. A retrospective look provides insight into how the industry is changing and how program managers are adjusting to the changes.
There are two objectives for these reports:
To offer graduate business program managers and faculty insight into how the graduate business education industry is changing
To show how program managers and faculty are adjusting to the many changes that are occurring in the industry.
MBA News Digest Q2 2017 Trends Report – This report, published July 30, 2017 focuses on the second quarter of 2017.
Second quarter data suggests that the graduate business environment is still as dynamic as ever. Much of what makes the environment dynamic, also makes it predictable. Even so, there were some surprises, which I include as noteworthy topics: Purdue acquires Kaplan, a greenfield B-School startup, HBS book controversy, new ranking system, something called a forever masters and a big name EMBA program withdrawing from selected markets. At the same time, I added six new observations about the industry while I found that twenty past observations were reinforced, and four were not reinforced.
From a purely data standpoint, I added a total of 310 articles to the MBA News Digest archives during the quarter ending June 30, 2017 (Q2). Assuming the archive additions continue at the same pace, the annualized number of articles for 2017 will be 1,224. This would be more articles than was added during 2016 (1,032) but, less than the number added during 2015 (1,275).
